I was going thru some old email; best and most tragic thing about Gmail - you never have to delete. I came across a series of emails from a friend that I had (or rather have) a hard time letting go of. All the reasons why we're not friends anymore are *right there* and still none of them makes enough sense to me to see why we had to stop being friends. It's like losing a part of my family. Granted, there are some family I wouldn't mind losing; that's not the point. Looking over these dates, you can tell what a fool I am, especially after the last one. For hoping and waiting there is still something left. It's embarrassing to see it, really.
So today I read every single last one of them again. I had to grin at the first line of the first email on this page that reads, "you know it is a very sad day when one weeps over the lack of playing with someone." Back then it was figurative. Back then was four years ago. And this isn't counting the emails lost with the loss of my previous main email account.
Two clicks and now they're all gone, gone, gone. About fucking time, huh?
On the plus side, it did boot me in the direction of cleaning out some of the saved messages I probably don't need anymore. I am currently using a whole 696mb, or 7%, of my gmail's capacity. Gosh, I suppose if I didn't want to, I didn't have to. Sometimes... one just has to.
I need some caffeine now. Maybe some chocolate >.O

It's easy to become complacent about anything. Myself, I've reached a level of comfort with the community in that I appreciate the occasional nudges to look at this or that, or answer questions in as timely a fashion as I'm capable of doing - and that somehow, this has been enough. I am not, however, able to address matters not brought to my attention, whether it be about the community, how I've handled communication, complaints - or even compliments. What I'd like to provide here is a safe place for anyone to leave feedback on how JRY is doing - myself and the mods. If you're comfortable leaving your comment with your LJ, that's fine. If you'd like to do so anonymously, my only request is that you be as clear as you can be and remember that the best way for me to improve JRY is through constructive criticism.

I read this "Message to the fans" letter by HearJapan.com and I find it incredibly depressing. Visual kei fans adore so many artists and bands and yet the majority (it seems) can't quite be motivated to show support via purchasing the music. On the one hand, yes, illegal downloading did contribute to the spread of Japanese rock in general, but it should have in no way made it okay to never actually purchase of the music. Of course, I can't say I've never downloaded anything before or since these issues were brought up; however, I've been hoping to find ways of promoting the bands - the music, the efforts, our love - as much as possible. Most of us know where we can buy the music and this year, there are two discographies I have my hopes set on acquiring. It will take some time, but I have a whole year to achieve that goal.
I started typing out this whole little thing that touched on issues brought up, but it's all been said and done before. I think the shortest story I want to say is simply to support the musicians as you can. It isn't just the music you can buy. Purchase something tangible - keychains, t-shirts, posters. Reward yourself and support the artists in the same process. Buy the music when you can, even if you've already heard it. The more we support the boys who feed our addictions, the more likely they are to visit us more often. I wonder what I can do to give some of that motivation. I thought of spending money out of pocket to give gift certificates to save even five dollars off of purchasing an import. Only yesasia.com starts at $10 for a gift certificate and CDJapan.com starts at 3,000yen, which is roughly $34. I want to do something and I haven't figured out what yet. But I want this year to be a year in which I hear a resounding voice from Jrock and Visual kei fans that they've bought more music in 2009 than ever. I wanna be one of those fans. And somehow bring as many along with me as I can.
Though if it were cheaper for me to export myself to Japan for shows, I'd so do it. Never gonna happen though. Unless someone builds teleporters. And makes travel cheap. Dammit.

it's been one month and i just realized it. i question a lot about the past, the investments one makes to build something great. then something so minor comes along and takes it away. the world didn't quit moving, but part of me did. and i'm stupid for trying to hold onto nothing more than dust.

there's a giant house spider staring at me from the wall. how do i know this? i moved my laptop and it shifted to follow my progress. now it sits there all smug knowing i'm not going to kill it yet cuz it's big (okay, less than 3/4 inch long, BUT STILL), and it's proven it's fast and the last thing i want before bedtime is a spider crawling on me T___T go away!
my da' has a huge rose bush outside. the guy's cultivated it for the last almost twenty years and is quite proud it went from being a one rose plant to the modest 'bush' it is now. with almost a whole dozen roses in full bloom!
spider quit moving i'm telling a story...
anywayz, so i happen to be outside today and i noticed that the largest bloom is resting against the window and looks a little squished. i tried situating it to rest in a different angle and gave up. and then noticed all the other blooms were GONE. not fallen off, not ruined by the recent frost, but GONE. all of them clipped away. i asked da' if he'd picked his roses already and just left the one and he said no. so. someone came to our house and stole all his roses - except the largest one. omg who does that? there's that guy on the next block with like. five yellow rose bushes

i was shown this video and it actually blew me away. the time and effort it took to create a video depicting a sense of something as simple as a RP! it's simply incredible. i invite you to go check it out and just give it a whirl. Icy Cold City. Of course, you don't have to join the RP, just check out the incredible advertising. i saw the video again today and it still just amazes me. normally i don't allow images above a cut exceeding 100 pixels high (avg icon height), but *that* o_o i couldn't bear to see it under a cut.
if fandom advertising could be that incredible, think of where we'll be in the next year XD i've seen fandom produce incredible graphics, designs, sites and just... fandom may be how we utilize our free time, yet it gives incredible opportunities for real life work. i wish i could have ppl like that working with me for my community.

something like Oktoberfest is happening downtown. Coratious and i (after picking him up nearly a hundred miles away) perused some of our old haunts, met cool ppl, met ppl who remembered us (that's always touching) and had a lot of fun bouncing around. it was quite teh adventure, tho i'm too beat to detail said adventure. man. sometimes i miss downtown. we stopped in the historic Argonaut liquor store - i can't believe they're building another building all but butted up against it o.o they tore down the dollar Chinese joint! where else will i get awesome garlic wings? T___T

hee. as of this very moment, i have pending items, yet nothing that requires attention absolutely RIGHT NOW. in this probably small window of free time, i... haven't a clue what to do. am i missing something? have i caught up? i have one hour to kill and i want to spend my time wisely. but on what? there's a rush of thoughts bottlenecking in my mind "you have this to do" (no definitive end date), "you should start on that" (someone else's project), "you should find this" (for my community). gaaaaah too many things to do, yet i'm sitting in my own little eye of the hurricane XDD
and then when i come home i'll have a dozen things to do and i'll o__o as to what to start on first

i made the painful switch from IE to Firefox and have - eventually - not looked back. however, after the latest update, one of my comm layouts is fragged up and now i can't play video or hear sound from YouTube or any other site. it works just fine in IE. was it from the update? anyone know a fix? help T___T
